January 2006 Archives

Some introductions are in order. Above is our baby at 12 weeks, a mere 3 inches long. Observe the strong nose, the adorable belly (strikingly similar to mine) and the skinny bent legs. It's too early to tell whether it's a boy or girl and for now, we are just relieved it looks like a normal fetus. The best part was that the baby kept waving its arms frantically as though saying "hi mom! hi dad!" Our little one is quite a mover and shaker already, which may explain my constant stomach upsets.
Our next ultrasound will be in a month. I can't wait!!!

I realize it's a little late in the game to be wishing one and all a happy new year, but for the past couple of months I've been curled up in a ball, heaving in agony -- this has forced me to pass up on most of the festivities of the holiday season...
But now, twelve weeks into pregnancy, I am told there is a light at the end of the nauseating tunnel. In about a week, morning sickness and all the attendant symptoms are supposed to be a thing of vague, distant memories. In fact, I'm feeling well enough now to finally return to my neglected blog.
Above is another one of my poster series, from which I will continue posting until my creative juices are flowing again. I think it appropriately heralds the mysteries that are overtaking my body. I heard the little one's heartbeat for the first time a few days ago and really, the only word to describe the sensation is "magical". As my newly distended belly was covered in goop, the doctor circled a stethoscope looking thing, wielding it like a metal detector and there it was: a puff-puff-puff that sounded more like a far-away steam engine. Magical.
