October 2005 Archives

Check out Penelope's fun Halloween Contest.

We live 6 blocks from the famous Pike Place Market. This is handy since we don't own a car. Every weekend, I amble down to the waterfront farmer's stalls with my canvas bag and buy the freshest produce around. Then I walk ten steps and buy bread that's still warm from the oven, followed by another 15 steps to the small cheese shop (goat cheese for him, creamy Port Salut for me). On most weekends I'll swing by the seafood stall and get a pound of salmon - we like salmon. They know me by name and we exchange updates from the week. One of the seafood guys won a makeover and went on TV. The produce boy just started fall semester at the local university. The cheese shop girl is into a new band...
As I lug about 30 pounds of food home, "This," I think, "is the life."

Caught a cold. When I'm not feeling 100% I crave soup. Rather than slurping a cup of Campbell's, today I decided to make my own. It started out innocently as a creamy butternut squash concoction. Then I remembered that I had some left over rice and oh, that chicken should really be cooked before it starts smelling funny and before long, I had practically emptied out the entire refrigerator and kitchen sink into the pot. It kind of tastes like the inside of the fridge...but my nose is so stuffed up who knows, maybe it's delicious and I just can't tell.
This weekend, I didn't start my knitting project, but I did embark on a new mini-paintings series (I paint them on 5 x 7 inch canvases). It's still a work in progress...

Every weekend I have grand plans to paint up a storm, exercise, go to the museum, start knitting a sweater and cook sumptuous and healthy meals. And spend quality time with my favorite people.
The truth is, most weekends are spent doing laundry, moving the stacks of bills from one table to another, eating hamburger buns sans burger and veggies. And lately, I've been spending way too much time admiring other people's talents and not doing enough creating of my own. Must change that. Aside from my daily favorite Loobylu, these are the inspiring sites occupying my time:
Camille
Penelope
Sarah
Yoko
Catia
Hillary
Grady
Keri
Carll
Akiko
And many, many more...

Last weekend we went up to the mountains for a much needed getaway. Here is a doodle...
I've been sketching quite a bit but haven't had a chance to scan them in lately. Here's one so far...
