17 months - Happy 2008!

Most noteworthy of December -- aside from Christmas and the harkening of the new year -- was my mom's visit. "Obachan" (or as Kumi called her: "Baba") stayed for two weeks and the Koom Koom immediately took to her. In fact, within an hour Kumi was snuggling up to the Baba and played with her as though it was the most natural thing to have her grandma from California in her house. We think it's the daily Skype sessions that familiarized my mom to my ordinarily wary daughter. As usual, my prolific mom left a trail of handmade goods: beautiful sweaters, wool skirts, knit dresses. Amazing stuff.

MF and I got to have several date nights, including a night out for a Christmas party. It was a very adult event and I had forgotten what it's like to dress up and attend an event without a child hanging off of me. It felt rather unnatural, to be honest. I really love being a mom and hanging out with my little girl day in and day out.

Christmas was simply awesome. Thanks to my mom and her babysitting help, I was able to finish the sweater I started knitting for MF a year ago. Though the sleeves were a bit too long, everything else about the sweater fit MF perfectly. It's a gorgeous dark green -- almost black in certain lighting and mossy green in others -- and it was most definitely a labor of love. Kumi was inundated with gifts from relatives and us, but she doesn't quite get the concept yet, thank goodness. Next year, we're going to try to tone the whole Christmas gluttony down...

And speaking of gluttony, I received an extravagant and amazing camera with which these shots were taken. It is by far the best gift I've ever received. I love my Canon Digital Rebel Xti. Now I don't have to sort through the millions of blurry pictures my former camera inevitably took. Joy.

So 2008 is here and this is the first year I don't have any major resolutions aside from staying healthy and creating more (knit, draw, paint, sew -- all manners of crafty things). 2007 was a phenomenal year full of blessings and I just hope that this year is just as good. Happy New Year, everyone.
