Juggling Act

The last month and a half have been the busiest ever. As we scurried around attending wedding events, hanging out with friends, taking classes, finishing last minute work projects and freaking out in general, time rapidly slipped away. Above is part of an illustration job I just completed for a baby site -- I kept telling my client I wasn't sure when I'd go into labor so tried to get it all done in record speed.

I'm now in my second week of maternity leave and finally feel like the pace has slowed down a bit. Yesterday, the doctor told me that I am 1cm dilated and that she could feel the top of my baby's head. Feel it! After carrying this bundle for 9 months, I suppose I shouldn't be so shocked, but it suddenly hit me that this is real. I'm actually going to push this life form out of me and we will become a family. I am excited and terrified.

The crazy heat wave we've been having (97 degrees in Seattle!!) has made me cranky and the most I can muster is to sit in the gym pool near my apartment. I literally plunk my butt down on the steps leading into the pool and soak in the cool, somewhat sketchy water. The rigorous swimmers look at me a little suspiciously, but I don't care. We tried to buy an air conditioner but they were sold out everywhere. At Lowe's, we sadly watched a pudgy man cart off the last air conditioner to the cash register. We got multiple fans instead and we now sleep in a windy vortex.

It was M.F.'s 34th birthday a couple of days ago and we celebrated in our usual low key style. Among other goodies, I got him the Battlestar Galactica DVD set (the new version) and we've become hooked. We had a fun and thoroughly geeky day...and now, the waiting continues.
